Our
Roots

Most kids got a puppy, train or a gift wrapped in bright paper for their 11th birthday, but from his aunt and uncle, Scott Alyn got a Magnolia tree! He planted it in the earth. They grew up together and were the best of friends. A year later his parents planted two eight foot tall Green Ash trees in front of Travis Elementary school in San Antonio, Texas. One for him and one for his brother. (The picture below is thirty years later when we went back to visit "our" trees.) These early experiences shaped his love of nature and charted his green and leafy course in life.
In 1992, leaning against the trunk of a more than one-hundred year old Cottonwood tree in Colorado, Scott Alyn's life took an important turn. Times had become difficult, life a little trying. Looking for guidance he felt the deep ridged bark of this tree and thought "I need your help . . . can you give me some advice?" Stand tall and proud . . . he heard the tree say, Be content with your natural beauty and go out on a limb. This advice from a tree and simplicity of nature began to smooth out the complexities and challenges he faced. Sink your roots deep in to the earth. Wise advice from this true tree friend. That was the day he discovered his own true nature, and realized he could help others find theirs.
Scott changed his name to Ilan Shamir, which literally means "protector of the trees" and wrote the book PoetTree - The Wilderness I Am. Through poetry and a trees gentle advice, Your True Nature was born. A company committed to honoring the planet and the fearless spirit of every persons own loving nature.
